HAMPTON, Ga. - On Saturday morning the VCU Men's and Women's Cross Country teams competed in the 2011 CAA Cross Country Championships.

The men finished fifth out of seven teams with 138 points in this year's event, with the women coming in 10th place out of 10 teams.

William & Mary captured its 12th-straight CAA title on the men's side, while James Madison University earned its second-straight conference title.  

VCU junior Brenden Leavitt was again the top finisher for the men, coming in 20th place among all runners in a time of 26:17. Senior John Vial was the next runner to complete the course, finishing in 26:28 for 21st place.

A pair of newcomers came in third and fourth for the Rams, as Khalid Khamis (27:01)and Sam Hush (27:12) were the 27th and 34th male student-athletes to cross the finish line, respectively.

Running in their final CAA Championship, seniors Nicole Walters and Heather Delacruz paced the VCU women with a 59th and 61st place finish. Waters final time was 24:38, while Delacruz came in at 24:39.

Sophomore Hailey Scheren logged a time of 25:00 for 58th place in the event.

Both teams will run their final regular season competition next Friday, at the Cavalier Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia.
