VCU COASTS TO EIGHTH STRAIGHT WIN

The short story: Three players recorded nine kills and senior middle blocker Jasmin Sneed (San Antonio, Texas) supplied five blocks as balanced VCU dropped Fordham Sunday.

OPENING VOLLEY

  • Redshirt senior middle blocker Jaelyn Jackson (South Chesterfield, Va.) provided nine kills on 12 attempts and also booked four blocks for the Black and Gold
  • VCU senior opposite Gina Tuzzolo (Newport News, Va.) and junior Paula Neciporuka (Kuldiga, Latvia) also spiked nine kills each
  • In addition to her blocking effort, Sneed added six kills and did not commit a hitting error in eight attempts
  • Senior libero Madalon Simpson (Louisville, Ky.) and senior setter Dajah Ard (Arlington, Texas) combined for 28 digs for VCU
  • Elise Benjamin was credited with eight kills and two blocks to pace Fordham  

THE DIFFERENCE

  • With the exception of one Fordham run midway through the second set, VCU dominated the match. VCU hit .320 (compared to Fordham's .061) on the day
  • VCU outblocked Fordham 10-2 and recorded 19 more digs (55-36) than the guests
  • Fordham briefly looked as if it would play itself back into the match when it raced to a 17-10 lead. But VCU responded with a 14-1 run on the way to a 25-22 victory

NOTABLE

  • Jackson was dominant this weekend. In two VCU matches, both wins, she recorded 17 kills on 21 swings and did not commit an error – an .810 hitting percentage. She also averaged 1.17 blocks per set
  • VCU has won a season-high eight straight matches and is tied atop the Atlantic 10 Conference standings with Dayton at 5-0
  • VCU has won 32 of its last 33 regular season conference matches and is 35-2 against A-10 opponents since 2017
  • The Black and Gold have lost just two sets in conference play (15-2) this season
