RICHMOND, Va. – Jasmin Sneed has picked up where she left off last year.
The VCU senior middle blocker from San Antonio, Texas was named Atlantic 10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week Monday. An AVCA All-Region and All-America Honorable Mention selection in 2018, Sneed captured the honor following a week in which she averaged 1.75 blocks per set and led the Rams to a 3-1 record.
On Tuesday, Sneed recorded seven blocks in a win over High Point to become VCU's career leader. She added nine blocks on Friday in a three-set triumph over N.C. State and six each against Alabama and UC Santa Barbara on Saturday.
Sneed also hit .283 during the week and blasted 23 kills.
Through seven matches this season, Sneed is averaging 1.83 blocks per set, which ranks seventh nationally. She averaged 1.70 in 2018, fourth-best in the country.
Sneed and the Rams return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. against Virginia Tech at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.
