RICHMOND, Va. – Four VCU Women's Track and Field athletes were honored by the Atlantic 10 on Thursday, when they announced their selections for the Outdoor All-Rookie teams. Shannon Moise, Kayla Merkel, Chanelle Hodges and Amari Jackson were each named to the All-Rookie team for their performances during the Outdoor season.

Moise, a freshman from Coral Springs, Fla., earned the selection after finishing fourth in discuss with a career-best 40.41 meter throw, and fourth in the shot put with a throw of 13.51 meters. Additionally, Moise was named to the All-Rookie Team for her stellar performances in the Indoor season as well.

Jackson, a freshman out of Portsmouth, Va., earned the honor after placing sixth in the Triple Jump, with a leap of 11.62 meters. Her mark was the highest of any freshman in the competition. Her selection to the All-Rookie Team marks her second of the season, as she earned the distinction following the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships as well.

Merkel, a freshman native of Drums, Pa., was selected to the team after capturing the conference title in the javelin. The win gave VCU its first victory of the championship meet. Her toss also set a personal-best at 45.48 meters. Any of Merkel's three best throws would have won the event. Her performance also earned her Women's Co-Rookie Performer of the Year honors.

Hodges, a freshman hailing from Portsmouth, Va., earned bronze in the 200m after running a 24.55. Her finish garnered All-Rookie Team honors for the event.

Coming off a second place finish in the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship win, the Rams will be back in action on May 12, when they host the VCU Ram Invitational at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond, Va.
