LYNCHBURG, Va. – The ITA Atlantic Regional Championships, hosted by Liberty, has come to an end. The tournament was highlighted by Paola Exposito Diaz-Delgado earning the D1 Singles title after posing a perfect 6-0 record.
After winning in the Round of 64, Diaz-Delgado never took her foot off of the pedal. She defeated athletes from Maryland, Pittsburgh, Old Dominion, UVA, and William & Mary. Nothing came easy for Diaz-Delgado as every match she won, with the exception of one, went to three sets.
Her biggest victory, with the exception of the championship match, came when Diaz-Delgado defeated the No. 2 seeded Meghan Kelley of UVA in the semifinal. She defeated Kelley with a score of 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
As a result of her finals appearance and singles title, Diaz-Delgado earns an automatic entry into the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, Nov. 7-11, in Surprise, Ariz. The Oracle ITA National Fall Championships features 128 of the nation's top collegiate singles players (64 men and 64 women) and 64 doubles teams (32 men's team and 32 women's teams).
