RICHMOND, Va. – Atlantic 10 Conference Champion VCU (17-5) will meet 20th-ranked Virginia (15-8) in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, May 11 in Columbia, S.C. South Carolina will serve as host and will oppose Quinnipiac on the other side of the bracket. Match times will be released later.
It'll be the Rams 12th NCAA Tournament appearance in 13 years and ends a one-year hiatus from the event. It's VCU's 17th overall NCAA appearance.
The Rams earned their spot in the field via a 4-2 win over UMass in Sunday's A-10 final in Orlando, Fla. It was VCU's fifth A-10 crown in six seasons. Junior Anna Rasmussen, 15-8 in singles action this year, and freshman Paola Exposito Diaz-Delgado, who is 14-5 on the No. 2 court, lead the Black and Gold.
VCU and Virginia have met three times in the NCAA Tournament, all since 2007. UVA topped the Rams in the First Round of the 2015 NCAA Tourney. It will mark the 23rd all-time meeting between the two programs.
The Cavaliers are led by 35th-ranked Rosie Johanson (22-12) at No. 1 singles. Virginia is coming off a 4-2 loss to Wake Forest in the first round of the ACC Tournament.
