SKILLMAN, N.J. – Sophomore Cindy Chala of the VCU Women's Tennis team has been in Richmond for less than six months. One thing's for sure, she hasn't wasted any time making quite a first impression in her debut season with the Rams.

After posting a 14-4 mark this spring and earning Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Player, Chala was named ITA Atlantic Region Player to Watch.

The ITA Player to Watch award is bestowed upon a player who is expected to be one of the top returning players in their region next season and is expected to contend for an ITA regional title. Players must have been ranked nationally to receive the award.

Playing at the top spot in VCU's singles lineup all spring long, Chala went 14-4 overall, with all four of her losses coming to players ranked in the top-30 nationally. Individually, she finished the spring ranked in the top-80 players in the country.

In addition to her individual honors, the St. Cloud, France native helped lead the Rams to a 22-5 overall mark and the first Atlantic 10 Championship in VCU history.

Chala now advances to the award's national ballot. The national winner will be announced on May 22.
