RICHMOND, Va.—To get ready for the Super Bowl, most people are busy putting together snack trays, phoning in pizza orders and frying up chicken wings.  The VCU women's tennis team got ready by putting together a resounding 5-2 win against the Winthrop Eagles Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore Daria Yakauleva was the MVP of the weekend, picking up four wins for the Black & Gold with a pair of doubles wins as well as a pair of singles wins.

For the second time this weekend, the Rams started off with a sweep of doubles competition to take a 1-0 lead on the day.  Following their doubles victory, both Yakauleva and junior Josefin Hjertquist picked up key singles victories.  Singles wins by sophomore Olga Terteac and freshman Marketa Placha put the day away for Rams.

The Rams move to 7-1 for the spring, and Winthrop drops to 3-6.

VCU returns to action next Saturday, Feb. 11 for their first conference match against rival Old Dominion.  Match-play is set to begin at 2 p.m.
