NORFOLK, Va. – The Virginia Commonwealth University women's tennis team wrapped up its fall schedule with a successful trip to Norfolk for the annual ITA Atlantic Regional.

VCU's doubles team of seniors Ana Bara and Alex Bara highlighted the Rams action as the duo marched all the way to the semifinals of the main doubles bracket and were one of four teams remaining (out of 64 total teams).  The pair picked up victories over Old Dominion's Margarita Belyakova and Melissa Esnal Olguin, 8-0, Miami's Katie Kargl and Kayla Rizzolo, 8-2, and Marshall's Maria Voscekova and Dominika Zaprazna, 9-8 (5) before falling to eventual runner-up and second-seeded Emily Fraser and Hana Tomljanovic from Virginia, 8-5, in the semifinals. The Rams other doubles team in action was junior Josefin Hjertquist and sophomore Daria Yakavleva, who advanced to the round of 16 with an 8-2 win over Liberty's Rebekah Jenkins and Alexandra Sheerhan.

All four Rams secured at least one win in singles action with Alex Bara and Hjertquist picking up a two victories apiece to reach the round of 16.  Alex Bara began play with a victory over Colonial Athletic Association foe Samantha Carnell from Delaware, 6-0, 6-1, before defeating Penn State's Chelsea Utting, 6-2, 6-0.  Meanwhile, Hjertquist knocked off Georgetown's Vicky Sekely, 6-4, 6-4, and Old Dominion's Diana Ivanova, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

VCU will return to the court when its spring season starts in January.
