RICHMOND, Va. – Henry Ford once said, "Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress, working together is success."

Apparently, senior Kateryna Yergina and junior Alex Bara of the VCU women's tennis team have been told that quote because the duo worked together brilliantly on the doubles court this spring. The partners posted a 14-3 ledger, which is what earned them a berth into the NCAA Doubles Tournament later this May.

"It takes a different type of player to be highly successful at doubles, as well as good chemistry with your partner," Head Coach Paul Kostin said. "Alex and Kateryna showed that this spring and I'm proud of them for earning a spot in the tournament."

The duo was rated as the top doubles combo in the Colonial Athletic Association, which earned them an automatic berth into the postseason event.

It looked like they were unbeatable early in the spring as they reeled off 11 straight wins to start the year, including a thrilling 8-5 victory over then 11th-ranked Sandhya Nagaraj and Sanaa Bhambri of N.C. State.

They wrapped up the year with two consecutive wins, including a victory over then 33rd-ranked Anik Cepeda and Hope Johnson of William & Mary, which secured the bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 25-30 at the Taube Tennis Center in Stanford, California, following the conclusion of the team championship (May 20-24). Stanford University will serve as host.
