RICHMOND, Va. – It's almost time for the spring tennis season to crank up and what better way to kick off the season than with the both VCU tennis squads ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association polls.

With both programs coming off CAA titles last spring, the women's  team finds themselves ranked 31st in the ITA Division I national team rankings, while the men are 72nd.

On the individual side, two sophomores, Josefin Hjertquist (68th) and Max Wennakoski (123rd), will start the season ranked on the singles side.

In the fall, Hjertquist highlighted the Black and Gold at the ITA Atlantic Regionals when she reached the semifinals. She also teamed with junior Ana Bara to pick up a doubles victory at the tournament. The Spanga, Sweden native posted an 11-4 record during the fall season.

Wennakoski made a name for himself with an impressive run at the ITA Atlantic Regionals. In the round of 32, he battled with UVA's Justin Shane, the eighth-seed, and was the only player to win a set off Shane. The Helsinki, Finland native finished the fall season with a 3-2 ledger.
