RICHMOND, Va. – VCU freshmen Sky Hyatt (Eldersburg, Md.) and Molly Barcikowski (Sykesville, Md.) were named to the Atlantic 10 Conference's All-Rookie Team Wednesday.
The honors are the first All-Conference awards for the Rams, who completed their inaugural season last week.
Hyatt's and Barcikowski's rookie campaigns foretell bright futures for the pair and the VCU program. The high-powered duo combined for 66 goals and 33 assists during the 2016 season.
A member Coach Jen O'Brien's first VCU recruiting class in 2014-15, Hyatt scored a team-high 39 goals and dished out 11 assists from her position in the midfield. She ranked fifth in the A-10 in goals per game (2.29) and led the Rams in draw controls won (45), caused turnovers (18) and ground balls (26).
Hyatt recorded six hat tricks in 2016, including a nine-goal performance in a win over Campbell on March 6. She also handed out a career-high four assists in VCU's inaugural game on Feb. 14, a win over Gardner-Webb.
Barcikowski ranked second on the team with 27 goals and handed out a VCU-best 22 assists during the year. Her 49 points ranked second only to Hyatt on the team. She also won 24 draws and scooped up 11 ground balls.
The true freshman kicked off her collegiate career with a bang, scoring five goals while handing out four assists in the Rams' triumph over Gardner-Webb. Barcikowski four hat tricks on the year and recorded at least five points in a game on four separate occasions.
