RICHMOND, Va. – Red-shirt freshman Sky Hyatt and freshman Molly Barcikowski were recognized by the Atlantic 10 on Monday for their performances in the VCU women's lacrosse contests versus Winthrop and Campbell this weekend.
"We are so proud of Sky and Molly and what these awards represent for our team." – Head Coach Jen O'Brien.
Hyatt earned Player of the Week honors after scoring a program record nine goals on 11 shots in the Rams' 21-13 win over the Camels on Sunday. Hyatt entered the game with five career goas and nearly matched her season output. She also assisted on another score.
O'Brien spoke highly of Hyatt's record-setting performance following the game, "Sky is a competitor. She bleeds for this program. It shows in how hard she works on the field and the way she supports her teammates. While she won this award for scoring nine goals, it was still of her effort that she showed in the draw circle, on the defensive end, making things happen all over the field that we are so proud of."
Barcikowski registered back-to-back hat-tricks over the weekend to give her a team-high three this season. The freshman leads VCU in assists and points, she is second in on the team in goals. The attack is ranked 3rd in the nation in assists per game. She assisted on two scores against Winthrop and dished out four more on Sunday.
O'Brien is very proud of the way the attack has stepped up for VCU this season, "Molly has only continued to improve after a great start to her career. She has really embraced her role as a leader for our offense. In addition to quarterbacking our offense, she has focused on being a threat in the ride and the clear."
The Rams continue their season in the Motor City, taking on Detroit on Friday, March 11th. Game-time at Detroit is set for 2:00 P.M.
