NORFOLK, Va. – On Friday, the VCU tennis team will begin its quest for a 13th CAA Championship.

Before they hit the courts, the Rams were honored for their outstanding regular season as five different players earned All-CAA accolades, including sophomore Alexis Heugas (pictured, right), who was named the CAA Player of the Year.

Heugas became the ninth different VCU player to earn Player of the Year accolades. It was the 11th time in the 17 years that the Black & Gold have been a member of the CAA that the Rams took home the Player of the Year award.

The Jurancon, France native compiled a 13-6 singles record this spring as VCU's top player. The sophomore is ranked #88 nationally in singles by the ITA and has won nine of his last 11 matches. He and partner Antoine Baroz were also 10-6 at No. 1 doubles and the duo is ranked #70 in the nation.

Joining Heugas on the All-CAA First Team was junior Max Wennakoski (pictured, left), his second straight year as an all-conference player. The Finland native finished the regular season with a 19-7 mark in singles action, including a 13-6 ledger this spring, mostly coming at the second spot in VCU's lineup.

Sophomore Antoine Baroz, senior Filip Svensson, Heugas and Wennakoski also got honored with a First Team Doubles selection. Baroz and Heugas held a 10-6 record overall, in dual play, and at the number one spot. Svensson and Wennakoski were 13-5 overall, 12-4 in dual play and 10-4 at the number two position.

 Svensson also received Second Team Singles recognition. He finished the regular season with an overall tally of 23-9 and a dual record of 14-7; primarily playing at the number three position. 

Sophomore Alejandro Argente and junior Jamie Vazquez rounded out the selections making Third Team Singles. Argente was 20-6 overall, 12-3 in dual play and held a record of 8-1 at the number four spot. Vazquez played 22-7 overall, 15-3 dual and spent most of the season at the number six position.
