COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Winning on the road is never easy and the VCU men's tennis team found that out the hard way on Saturday afternoon.

The Black & Gold battled hard, but fell victim to the talented Terrapins of the University of Maryland, 5-2, in College Park, Md.

Sophomore Alejandro Argente and junior Jaime Vazquez picked up a doubles win in the third position and the Rams nearly took the doubles point, but Alexis Heugas and Antoine Baroz were barely edged at the top singles spot, 9-7, by the 21st-ranked duo of John Collins and Maros Horny.

Argente kept his strong play going in the singles competition with a straight set victory at the fourth position, 6-4, 6-2 over Andy Magee.

Maryland would pick up two more singles victories to take a 3-1 lead, but senior Filip Svensson brought the Black & Gold within one at 3-2 with a 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 win at the third singles spot.

However, the Terrapins would take the next two singles matches to pick up the 5-2 win.

The Rams will return to action on Monday afternoon when they host the Ragin' Cajuns of Louisana-Lafayette at Thalhimer Tennis Center. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
