NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The VCU Men's Tennis squad added another impressive performance to its fall ledger, picking up a pair of singles wins and a doubles victory over the weekend at the annual Hampton Roads Collegiate Invitational in Newport News, Va.

The Rams proved to be the top squad represented at the event.  Alejandro Argente (pictured) defeated teammate Jaime Vazquez Catoira (6-3, 6-1) to capture the championship of the top men's singles flight (Universal Level 11 and up), while Filip Svensson and Camill Salomon picked up a pair of straight set wins on their way to the championship of the Universal Level 10 and up flight.  Svensson eventually defeated Salomon in the final, 6-2, 7-5.

Argente defeated James Madison's Hugo Ramadier (6-3, 7-6) and Delaware's Troy Beneck (6-3, 3-6, 1-0), as Vazquez dispatched Jimmy Davis of George Mason (6-3, 6-3) and JMU's Greg Vladimirsky (3-6, 6-2, 1-0).  In the meantime, Svensson knocked off JMU's Florent Sentenac (6-1, 6-1) and Norfolk State's Ben Marks (6-1, 6-4), while Salomon topped Keyan Sanai of Loyola (7-5, 6-3) and Ryan Pool of JMU (6-2, 6-2).

In doubles action, the duo of Vazquez/Argente picked up three wins on their way to a championship in the top doubles flight.  Svensson/Solomon also collected a pair of wins in the Universal Level 11 and up bracket.  Vazquez/Argente posted back-to-back 8-5 victories over Culver/Marks from Norfolk State and Vladimirsky/Ramadier from JMU, and later defeated JMU's Pool/Nissinen (8-2) for the title.  The combo of Svensson/Salomon picked up wins over Delaware's Beneck/Lawton (8-5) and Pool/Nissinen (8-2).
