RICHMOND, Va. – Head Coach Dave Giffard and the VCU Men's Soccer program announced its 2019 season schedule Wednesday. The Rams will face six opponents who appeared in the 2018 NCAA Tournament, including national runner-up, Akron.

"As we do every year, our schedule will challenge our players against some of the best teams in the country," said Giffard. "We are all looking forward to the preseason and learning what the 2019 edition of VCU Soccer looks like!"

The squad will tune-up with three exhibition matches. The exhibition slate will kick off with a game at Longwood (Aug. 17) followed by a home match against William and Mary (Aug 20.). VCU will round out its pre-season matches in Raleigh, N.C. against NC State (Aug. 24).

The Rams will start its regular season with four home matches at Sports Backers Stadium. The season opener will be August 30 at 7:00 p.m. against ETSU. September is highlighted by three-consecutive home games against LIU Brooklyn (Sept. 2), St. Francis (Sept. 6) and NJIT (Sept. 8). 

VCU will begin its longest road stretch of the season Sept. 13 at UCF. While on the road, the Rams begin Atlantic 10 play in New York against St. Bonaventure (Sept. 21). The six-game road swing will wrap up Oct. 2 with a matchup against 2018 national runner-up, Akron.

After returning home for two matches against Davidson (Oct. 5) and Dayton (Oct. 9), the Rams will head north to take on 2018 Atlantic 10 Tournament Champions, Rhode Island on Oct. 19.

The end of October will see three home games against Fordham (Oct. 23), George Washington (Oct. 26) and UNCW (Oct. 29), all at 7:00 p.m. The regular season will wrap up with a match at George Mason on Nov. 2.

Last season, VCU finished with a 10-6-2 overall record. The Rams posted a 6-1-1 record in Atlantic 10 play to claim the regular season title.
