RICHMOND, Va. – For VCU senior Dennis Castillo (San Jose, Costa Rica) defender, it's one final addition to his impressive collegiate ledger. For Rafael Andrade Santos (Rio de Janiero, Brazil) it's a nice cap to a breakout sophomore season.
Castillo (Second) and Santos (Third) were selected to All-Midwest Region teams this week by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
It's Castillo's third career All-Region honor. The 2015 Atlantic 10 Conference's Defensive Player of the Year, Castillo is a four-time All-Conference selection. A member of Costa Rica's national team, Castillo spent last summer with the Portland Timbers U23 squad, and was named the league's top defender.
He scored three goals this year and finished with illustrious VCU tenure with 17 goals and 36 points. Castillo netted six game-winners as a Ram, including one this season.
Santos tied for the team lead and goals (5) and points (12) this season, and scored three game-winners. He was named All-Atlantic 10 Conference Second Team for his efforts.
He assisted on the goal that sent the Rams to the A-10 Tournament and produced a 3-2 overtime win over Dayton in the regular season finale. He also netted the deciding goal in  a 1-0 A-10 Semifinal win over Fordham to secure the Rams a Championship Match berth.
