RICHMOND, Va. – The VCU Golf team is excited to announce the 6th Annual Janney VCU Golf College-Am, which will take place at the beautiful Vinaterra Golf Club on Saturday, May 5th beginning at 8 a.m.

The outing will consist of foursomes or threesomes paired with a VCU Golf team member, Athletics administrators, or area club pros.  The "shamble" format will award prizes for first and second place teams, along with longest drive and closest to the pin competitions.

Once again this year, VCU is proud to announce that Janney Montgomery Scott and Allan Strange will be the title sponsor along with host Dr. Jim Neifeld.

"We are very excited to be involved with the VCU Golf team and associated with Coach Matt Ball and the entire VCU Athletic organization," said Allan Strange, Executive Vice President of Investments with Janney Montgomery Scott.  "With last year's success, we saw firsthand what it meant to the team and Coach Ball and we hope that we are able to improve this year's event.  With that success, it motivated us to exceed last year's goal and we look forward to a great day with the whole team."

"The tournament started out as a way to bridge the gap between VCU's two campuses and raise some money for Coach Ball and the VCU Golf program," Dr. Neifeld added.  "It started out small, and has grown consistently, especially with the sponsorship of Janney Montgomery Scott and the participation of Allan Strange.  It has become a major event and we hope for a sell-out with the funds generated used to help elevate the VCU Golf team, enhance recruiting, and supplement the money available to Coach Ball in this tight economy."

Individual pricing begins at $200 per player, which includes green fees, range balls, tee gifts and lunch after the round. Team entries and hole sponsorships are also available.  All proceeds will benefit the VCU Golf program.

"Dr. Jim Neifeld and Allan Strange have done an outstanding job of encouraging their friends and business partners to support our program through this tournament," said Ball.  "As a result of the funds raised we are now able to do a much higher level of face-to-face recruiting, travel to higher caliber golf tournaments and keep the players more up-to-date in the highly technical equipment area.  We have lacked funds in these areas to be really competitive so as we move forward, we can count on both finding and taking care of high quality student-athletes.  I can't thank them enough for being such great friends to the program and can't wait to show them the benefits of their efforts."
