NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The great start to the season continues for the VCU Field Hockey program as more honors came its way on Monday afternoon.
After finding the back of the cage four times in Friday's win over Hofstra, senior Arialle Hess was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week. The honor marked the second time in three weeks that a Ram took home the award with Kelsey Scherrer earning the distinction on September 17.
Hess' four goals were the most by any Ram since Carlot Verloop scored four goals against Longwood on Sept. 12, 2004, and one shy of Alicia Yoder's program record of five.
The Rams are off to the best start in school history at 8-2 under the guidance of first year head coach Shannon Karl. VCU has outscored its opponents 30-18 on the season.
Hess and the Rams will hit the road for their first A-10 match against Temple (10/5), before playing a non-conference match at Liberty (10/7).
