NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Returning every goal and point scorer from last year's squad, the VCU Field Hockey program is excited about what the upcoming fall will bring.

It appears the rest of the Atlantic 10 Conference is excited as well with the Rams being selected fourth in the A-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll, announced today by the league office.

According to the poll, reigning Atlantic 10 Champion Richmond was predicted to win the league again, followed by Massachusetts and Temple. With VCU in fourth, LaSalle was picked fifth, followed by Saint Joseph's, Lock Haven and Saint Louis, respectively.

VCU returns 16 letterwinners from last year's squad, 13 of which will be upperclassmen this fall. Leading the way is last year's leading goal scorer, Kelsey Scherrer, who was First-Team All-Conference after scoring 11 goals for the Black & Gold.

Hosted by the Minutewomen of Massachusetts, the 2012 Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championship will be held on November 2nd and 3rd at the Richard F. Garber Field in Amherst, Mass.
