RICHMOND, Va. – Several VCU Baseball alumni are performing at a high level in the professional ranks in numerous leagues around the nation. Currently, nine former VCU standouts are making a name for themselves at the next level.

Take a look at where these former Rams are now: 

Jimmy Kerrigan, Pensacola Blue Wahoos (AA, MIN) – Kerrigan is in his third professional season, currently playing for the Pensacola Bluee Wahoos, Double-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. In 47 games, he has notched 36 hits and 23 RBI, including six home runs. He has also scored 26 runs and stolen nine bases for the Blue Wahoos during the 2019 campaign. 

Vimael Machin, Tennessee Smokies (AA, CHI) – Machin has been an integral part of the Chicago Cubs Double-A affiliate Tennessee Smokies this season. In his fifth professional season, Machin has appeared in 81 games. He currently boasts a .294 batting average with 86 hits and 44 RBI. He has an impressive .403 slugging percentage with 25 extra base hits, including three home runs. 

Logan Farrar, Beloit Snappers (A, OAK) – Farrar is in his second season with the Class-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletic. He has made regular appearances in the lineup, appearing in 72 games. Offensively, Farrar has been impressive with 54 hits and 27 RBI for a .221 batting average. In addition, Farrar has stolen five bags and scored 34 runs. 

Connor Gillispie, Aberdeen IronBirds (A, BAL) – After recently being selected in the ninth round of the 2019 MLB Draft, Gillispie is playing with the Class-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. Gillispie has thrown 7.1 innings in six outings so far this season. He has given up just two hits, struck out seven and has a 0.00 ERA with two saves.

Zac Ching, Ogden Raptors (RK, LA) – Recent VCU alumni Zac Ching is playing with the Los Angeles Dodgers affiliate Ogden Raptors after being selected in the 10th round of the 2019 MLB Draft. Ching has made an immediate impact with the Raptors, playing in 20 games. He has a batting average of .264 with 19 hits and 16 runs. He has knocked two extra base hits and notched 13 RBI.

Sam Ryan, Bluefield Blue Jays (RK, TOR) – Ryan is playing with the Toronto Blue Jays affiliate Bluefield Blue Jays after being selected in the 12th round of the 2019 MLB Draft. Ryan has appeared in five games with three starts for the Blue Jays. In his 14.0 innings pitched, he has fanned 11 batters.

Ben Dum, Southern Illinois Miners (Frontier League) – Dum has found a home playing for the Southern Illinois Miners of the Frontier League. On the mound, he has notched a win and a save in his 15 appearances. He has been effective, striking out 16 batters in his 16 innings pitched.

Jack Alkire, Gary SouthShore Railcats (AAIPB) – Alkire recently signed a contract with the Gary Southshore Railcats of the American Association of Independent Baseball. He has made eight appearances on the hill and has earned a win and a save. He has been impressive, with 19 strikeouts in 12.1 innings pitched.

Sean Thompson, Great Falls Voyagers (Pioneer League) – Thompson is playing for the Great Falls Voyagers of the Pioneer League in his second professional season. He has appeared in seven games, throwing 38.0 innings for the Voyagers. Thompson has earned a win and has fanned 35 batters.
