Vial, Dailey earn A-10 Weekly honors

RICHMOND, Va. – Junior Brooks Vial and freshman Michael Dailey provided the spark in a weekend sweep at LaSalle. On Monday, their efforts were rewarded, as Vial was named A-10 Co-Pitcher of the Week, while Dailey garnered A-10 Co-Rookie of the Week honors as announced by the conference office. On top of conference awards, Vial also earned himself a National Player of the Week selection by

Vial locked in his second weekly award of the season, while Dailey has earned his first collegiate weekly award. The pair helped solidify a 5-0 week for the Rams, including wins against Norfolk State, William & Mary, and a weekend sweep at LaSalle.

Vial put himself in line for a selection with his performance on Saturday afternoon. The lefty from Louisiana sent down 15 Explorers via a strikeout in six innings, the most of any Rams pitcher since 2004. Heath Dwyer was the last VCU hurler, also a lefty, to strikeout 15 when he did so on March 15, 2014. Vial's final line read at 6.0 innings, five hits, one earned run, three walks to go with the 15 punch-outs.

Dailey backed up Vial's superb performance on Saturday with a brilliant showing of his own on Sunday. Despite not being factored into the decision, Dailey kept the Explorers scoreless through six innings of play before allowing a run in the seventh. That would be the only run he would surrender, going seven innings and scattering six hits. His most impressive stat of the week was his 10 strikeouts, and setting up the Rams for a nice ninth inning, come-from-behind 2-1 win to complete their sweep.

The other pitcher sharing the award with Vial is Tyler Wilson of Rhode Island, while Bobby Campbell from George Washington earned Player of the Week. Earning Co-Rookie honors beside Dailey was Tim Brennan from Saint Joseph's.

The Rams face plenty of local competition in a four-game week for the Black and Gold, as they will head to Virginia on Wednesday, followed by a three-game series against Richmond at The Diamond over the weekend.
