Stiffler named ABCA/Diamond East Region Coach of the Year

RICHMOND, Va. – After leading his squad on a historic postseason run and posting the sixth 40-plus win season in VCU baseball history, Head Coach Shawn Stiffler was honored with the ABCA/Diamond East Region Coach of the Year on Tuesday.

Stiffler helped guide the Rams to their first-ever Super Regional, the first-ever Atlantic 10 Championship and 40 wins this past spring.

"This is a credit to our players to sticking together and really buying in at the right time. Their hard work and persistence throughout the spring paid off and I couldn't be more proud to be their coach," Stiffler said.

After its historic season, the Rams earned top-25 rankings in the final polls of the year, ranked highest at #17. It marked the second straight season that VCU had earned a top-25 ranking.

The Black & Gold had four different players sign contracts with MLB organization, including All-American shortstop Vimael Machin, who was drafted in the 10th round by the Chicago Cubs.

The ABCA, founded in 1945 is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 6,600 members represent all 50 states and 23 countries.
