RICHMOND, Va. – This past month, the nation found out what VCU Baseball had known for four years, just how good of a player and leader Vimael Machin was.
Machin's outstanding senior season was recognized on Saturday as he was named Third Team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association and Rawlings. He is the 17th All-American in the program's history.
"It is great to see Vimael finish his college experience on such a high note!," Head Coach Shawn Stiffler said. "His pursuit to lead our program to new heights translated into individual success for himself. I'm extremely happy for him."
Machin earned first team all-conference accolades after leading the Rams this season in batting average (.339) and RBIs (53). He helped VCU to its first-ever Super Regional and first-ever Atlantic 10 Championship.
He finishes his outstanding career playing the fifth most games all-time and ranking seventh in hits (257) and RBIs (162).
Earlier this week, Machin was drafted in the 10th round by the Chicago Cubs.
