RICHMOND, Va.--Postseason honors have been announced by the Atlantic 10, and five Rams earned spots on All-A10 teams.
Seniors Heath Dwyer and Vimael Machin have been named first team All-Atlantic 10, sophomores Logan Farrar and Matt Davis were named second team All-A10, and freshman Sean Thompson was named to the All-Rookie team.
For Machin this is the third all-conference honor he has earned; he was a second team honoree last season and an All-Rookie team member in the CAA his freshman season. Farrar earned All-Rookie honors last season, making this his second postseason honor. For the other three this is the first all-conference team to which each has been named.
Machin, Davis, and Farrar all have had stellar seasons at the plate. Each of the three are in the top-five on the team in batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage. Individually Machin leads the team in RBI, Farrar leads in runs scored, and Davis is tied for the team lead with six home runs. Farrar and Machin are the only two VCU players to start every game this season.
Statistically speaking, Dwyer has had his best year as a Ram this season, leading the way with eight wins, 77 strikeouts, and a 2.90 ERA. In conference play he has been even better, earning a record of 5-1 with a 1.88 ERA in eight starts. His performance this season has sent his name soaring up towards the top of the VCU record books; he now sits in second place in careers starts, third in wins, fifth in innings pitched, and seventh in strikeouts. He was recently named Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week.
As a freshman, Thompson stepped into the role of midweek starter early on and later was bumped up into the weekend rotation due to an injury. He has been a valuable asset for VCU this season, going 4-3 with a 3.67 ERA and giving the Rams 54.0 valuable innings.
The Atlantic 10 Tournament kicks off on Wednesday in Arlington, Va. VCU's first game will be at 5 pm that day against Davidson. All A10 Tournament information can be found here.
