RICHMOND, Va. – The 2012 Baseball season is a little more than a month away, giving just enough time for several Rams to pick up some All-CAA preseason honors, courtesy of College Sports Madness. VCU senior Taylor Perkins was named to the first team, while junior Ryan Farrar and sophomores Joey Cujas and Bill Cullen garnered second team honors.

Perkins received the distinction of being the league's top utility man in 2012, an honor that was also bestowed upon him by the CAA following the 2011 campaign. Perkins spent time behind the plate, at first base, third base and as the team's designated hitter in 2011. The Dinwiddie, Va., native batted .320 with a team-leading 15 doubles and four home runs.

Farrar, a left-handed pitcher, enters the 2012 season full of confidence after a strong performance in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League, a summer league based in the D.C. area. The Mechanicsville, Va., native was named the league's third best prospect after a breakout season for Youse's Orioles. Farrar made a team-high 14 appearances, while posting a 1-0 record with five saves. The southpaw threw 24 innings and fanned 36 batters, while posting a 1.36 ERA.

Cullen returns for his sophomore season after a promising freshman season, which saw him hit .324 (tied for second-best average on the team), rope 12 doubles, four triples and drive in 33 RBI. The speedy centerfielder finished 15-for-20 in stolen bases while drawing a team-high 29 walks. The Colonial Heights, Va., native was just as good defensively, as he finished with a .991 fielding percentage on 116 chances. Cullen's performance earned him Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America honors, in addition to being named to the All-CAA first team and rookie team.

Cujas, a All-CAA rookie team member in 2011, wrapped up his freshman season on a tear batting a team-best .427 during the final month of the year. The Midlothian, Va., product finished the season with a .321 batting average, a team-high 41 RBI, nine doubles, one triple and a pair of home runs.

VCU will open up the 2012 season on the west coast, with a three game series against Long Beach State (Feb. 17-19) and a two set against Pepperdine (Feb. 21-22).
