RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University junior third baseman Joe Van Meter received ABCA/Rawlings All-East Region Second Team honors Wednesday after producing one of the most successful seasons in VCU history.

Van Meter hit .434 during his final season with the Rams, which was the second-highest mark in the Colonial Athletic Association and second-best single season output in VCU history.  The third-year standout also set the conference record with 108 hits, topped the school record of 76 RBI and collected 13 doubles, seven triples, 10 home runs, and 14 stolen bases.

Van Meter, who was a 21st-round selection by the Texas Rangers in last week's Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, was a First Team All-CAA selection; the CAA Tournament's Most Outstanding Performer and received All-Tournament recognition in VCU's trip to the NCAA Tournament.
