Chris Gaines was named Video Coordinator for the VCU Men’s Basketball program in August of 2019. In his new role, he will be tasked with recording and coding practices and games, editing videos for scouting purposes and helping with other day-to-day responsibilities within the program.
Gaines previously served as a student manager under Rhoades (2017-18), Will Wade (2015-17) and Shaka Smart (2014-15), where he played an integral role behind the scenes of one of the top programs in the nation.
He was a part of the 2014-15 Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship team and the 2016-17 A-10 regular season championship squad before transitioning to assistant video coordinator for VCU’s 2018-19 A-10 regular season championship run.
Gaines comes from a basketball family, which includes his mother, Ellen Corum Gaines, who played on the VCU Women’s Basketball team from 1981-1985. While he never played on the varsity team at VCU, he did lead the Rams’ manager team to a national championship in San Antonio, Texas in 2018.
A native of Tappahannock, Va., Gaines graduated from Rappahannock High School in 2011 and went on to enroll at VCU for undergrad. He graduated from the university in 2015 with a degree in criminal justice and a minor in homeland security.
