Terry Zeh joined the VCU staff as an assistant women’s basketball coach in June of 2018.
Zeh, who holds 28 years of college coaching experience, most recently served as head women’s basketball coach at Canisius College for the past 14 seasons. He is the school’s all-time winningest coach and was named the 2009 MAAC Coach of the Year.
“I am very excited to have Terry join our coaching staff. Terry is a highly experienced and passionate coach with more than 25 years coaching the collegiate game. He is a skilled teacher and I cannot wait to be back on the sidelines with him. He is truly going to be a great addition to our program,” said O’Boyle.
It will be O’Boyle and Zeh’s second stint working on the same staff after O’Boyle spent four seasons as an assistant and later an associate head coach at Canisus from 2007-2011. The pair helped steer the program to its best season in 2008-09, when the Golden Griffins won 24 games and advanced to the MAAC Championship Game. Canisius also received a WNIT bid for the first time in program history.
During their time together at Canisius, they coached seven All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference selections, including 2009 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year Brittane Russell, 2009 MAAC Sixth Player of the Year Ellie Radke and 2011 MAAC Rookie of the Year Jamie Ruttle.
“I’m excited to join the VCU women’s basketball program. I’ve known Coach O’Boyle for a long time and have great respect for her as a coach and more importantly as a person. VCU is synonymous with great basketball and academics. It is an honor to be part of an outstanding athletic department and institution. I’m looking forward to working with the great young women in our program,” said Zeh.
Overall, Zeh led Canisius to the program’s only two postseason appearances in the 2005 NCAA Tournament and the 2009 WNIT. His teams posted a perfect APR score of 1,000 in seven of the last eight seasons. VCU, under O’Boyle, was also recently recognized by the NCAA for posting a four-year perfect APR Score.
Prior to serving as head women’s basketball coach at Canisius, Zeh was an assistant with the Golden Griffin’s men’s basketball program from 1997-2004. He also served as head men’s basketball coach and Director of Sports Information at Elmira College from 1995-97 and spent stints as an assistant coach at Manhattan College under Fran Fraschilla (1994-95), St. John Fisher College (1993-94) and Elmira (1990-93).
Zeh graduated from St. Bonaventure in 1990 and earned his master’s degree from Elmira College in 1992.
