Chris Kowalczyk has been a member of VCU Athletics Communications Department since 2005 and was promoted to Assistant A.D. for Athletics Communications in June of 2016. He previously served as Assistant Director of Athletics Communications for the Rams from 2005-2009 and Director of Creative Content from 2009-2016. 

Kowalczyk oversees VCU's communications efforts, which include a number of platforms, notably the program's website,, social media and several printed publications. He also serves as media liaison for VCU Men's Basketball, as well as several other of the school's athletics programs. 

For six seasons, Kowalczyk served as Director of Creative Content, where he developed, wrote and produced content for Around The Horns, a blog that provides an in-depth and entertaining perspective on VCU Athletics.

He continues to serve as editor-in-chief of The Ram Report magazine, as well as the men's basketball gameday program. Kowalczyk has won three CoSIDA Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest district awards, and his feature, "The Tambourine Man", was the organization's national winner in the General Feature category in 2015. 

Prior to his arrival in Richmond, Kowalczyk spent the 2004-2005 school year at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, N.J., as well as William Paterson University in Wayne, N.J. from 2003-2004.

From 2001-2005, Kowalczyk worked as a reporter for Dorf Feature Service, a subsidiary of the Newark-Star Ledger, and covered high school and small college sports.

Kowalczyk is a graduate of Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, where he received his bachelor’s in broadcast journalism in 2000. In addition, Kowalczyk earned his master’s in sport leadership from VCU’s Center for Sport Leadership in 2008.

A native of Austintown, Ohio, Kowalczyk resides in North Chesterfield with his wife, Stacia, and their son, Carter.

He is a long-suffering Cleveland Indians fan.
