VCU WOMEN’S TRACK TEAM MAKING PROGRESS
Rams work on jumping techniques at Hampton Invitational
HAMPTON – The Virginia Commonwealth University women’s track team had what first-year coach Jon Riley called “a quiet weekend” at the Hampton Invitational. That doesn’t mean Riley was disappointed.
“We focused on technique with our horizontal and vertical jumpers,” Riley said. “We had a few athletes finish in the top 5 and top 10, but the most important things were the quality jumps.”
The event at the Boo Williams Sportsplex did feature some highlights for the Rams.
In the 60 meter hurdles, freshman Rachel Montague (Marlton, N.J.) and junior Sernarra Archie (Winston-Salem, N.C.) set personal records. Montague covered the course in 9.24 seconds, Archie in 9.35.
Freshman Allison Morris (Langhorne, Pa.) finished seventh in the high jump at 1.53 meters. Sophomore Stephanie Newing (Virginia Beach, Va.) was fourth in the pole vault at 2.60 meters. Freshman Jazzlyn Finney (Leesburg, Va.) was fifth in the long jump at 5.43 meters. Montague was sixth in the triple jump at 11.42 meters.
The Rams compete again on Saturday in the Patriot Games at George Mason University.
