Jamie Corti

There’s an old adage that states that “Defense wins Championships.”

If that’s true, the Virginia Commonwealth University women’s soccer team is prepared, even on their coaching staff with the addition of Jamie Corti as the graduate assistant for the upcoming 2009 campaign.

Born in Florence, Italy, Corti was immersed in soccer since birth and grew up playing against Italian boys.
After moving to Apex, N.C., Corti was an All-State defender in high school and earned a spot on the UNC Greensboro women’s soccer team.

She started the final seven contests of the 2005 campaign and never looked back, earning the starting nod in 65 of the Spartans’ 66 games over her final three seasons.

Corti became the cornerstone of a stifling defense that allowed just 0.92 goals per game over her final three seasons, including posting a total of 33 shutouts.

Twice, she earned All-Southern Conference First-Team honors (junior and senior seasons) and was named to Southern Conference All-Tournament team during her sophomore year.

Off the pitch, Corti was just as stellar earning Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll accolades during all five of her years at UNC Greensboro.

She graduated UNCG with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in May of 2009, and is currently enrolled in the Center for Sport Leadership at VCU.
