RAMS ENTER SOCCER BUZZ REGIONAL RANKINGS
VCU ranked in the poll for the first time since Aug. 25
RICHMOND, Va.—A six-game unbeaten streak has catapulted the Virginia Commonwealth University women’s soccer team back into the Soccer Buzz regional rankings. The Rams started the season ranked ninth in the poll, but a four-game losing streak knocked VCU out of the rankings.
Since then, VCU has recorded five wins and one tie. The Rams closed their non-conference slate with four straight wins, out-scoring their opponents by a 14-4 margin. VCU opened CAA play with a 1-1 draw against Towson before topping George Mason 2-0.
Senior Stephanie Power (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) leads the team with 18 points (five goals, eight assists). Fellow-senior Megan Flanagan (Franktown, Colo.) has added 14 points (five goals, four assists). Since taking over in goal on September 19, senior Kali Van Covern (Waynesboro, Va.) has recorded a 3-0-1 record. She notched her first career shutout in the Rams’ victory over George Mason on Sunday.
VCU will hit the road for a pair of CAA match-ups this weekend. The Rams will battle the Georgia State Panthers on Friday at 4:00 p.m. before meeting up with UNC Wilmington on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. |
