RAMS DROP 1-0 CONTEST AT N.C. STATE
VCU outshoots Wolfpack, 14-4

BOX SCORE

RALEIGH, N.C.—The Virginia Commonwealth University women’s soccer team had no problem getting shots off against the North Carolina State defense on Friday. Finding the net, however, was a different story in the Rams’ 1-0 loss to the Wolfpack at the Residence Inn North Invitational. VCU fired off 14 shots, including eight on goal, while limiting the Wolfpack to just four total shots and two shots on goal.

The deciding goal came in the 39th minute when N.C. State’s Vera Cipollini stole the ball from VCU goalkeeper Lauren Hardison (Midlothian, Va.) and placed it in the back of the net.

After the halftime intermission, VCU came out firing. The Rams produced four corner kicks in the first six minutes of the second half. The Rams again found opportunities late in the game, launching six shots in the game’s final 12 minutes, but N.C. State goalkeeper Kim Kern made three of her game-high eight saves in the final six minutes.

With the loss, the Rams fall to 0-3, while N.C. State improves to 4-0. The Rams will continue competition in the tournament Sunday at 3:30 p.m. against UNC Greensboro.
