CURRENT AND FORMER RAMS MAKING THEIR MARK IN THE USL’S W-LEAGUE

RICHMOND, Va. – Soccer is a game full of passion. It doesn’t leave a player once they graduate college and move on with their life. It is ingrained in them.
The Virginia Commonwealth University women’s soccer program is no different.
Eight different Rams have helped the Black & Gold make its mark in the USL’s W-League this summer with standouts Jenn Parsons and Sandra [Anger] Matute leading the way.
Parsons is coming off a two-goal performance in which she aided her Washington Freedom (8-1-0) squad to a 2-1 victory over Boston to move into sole possession of second place in the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference.
On the season, VCU’s all-time leading scorer ranks in the top-five in the league with seven goals and top-10 in the league with 17 points in nine contests.
Meanwhile, Matute has dazzled opponents in the midfield and is tied for second in the league with five assists, as well as two goals for a total of nine points this year.
The duo was joined by current Ram, Molly Allen (Halifax, Nova Scotia), who played 33 minutes of action in a game earlier this season for the Freedom.
Recently graduated Samara Stephen-Dowd has teamed with former VCU teammate Jen Woodie to anchor the back line of the Richmond Kickers Destiny. Each player has tallied a goal on the year, and Woodie serves as the head coach of the squad. She earned her first victory on June 28th in a 1-0 victory over the Northern Virginia Majestics.
On that Majestics squad is current Ram Jasmine Riley (Arlington, Va.), who has found the net on one occasion for a very young, but talented Northern Virginia squad.
Two other Rams who have seen playing time in league action are current Ram, Myriam Bouchard (Quebec, Canada), for her hometown Quebec City Amiral and Hayley Moorwood for the Ottawa Furry. Bouchard has tallied one goal in five games with the Amiral, while Moorwood has seen action in three contests for the Fury.
