FLANGAN’S BIG OFFENSIVE WEEK LANDS HER RAM OF THE WEEK HONORS Junior nets three goals, tallies two assist
RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Commonwealth University women’s soccer team is picking up steam and senior Megan Flanagan (Franktown, Colo.) is a big reason why as the veteran has helped the Black and Gold pick up four straight victories. Her three-goal, two-assist week in which the Rams went 2-0 has landed her McDonald’s Ram of the Week honors.
Flanagan started the week off with a bang as she netted two goals and recorded one assist as the Black and Gold posted a 5-1 thrashing off Wofford College as VCU improved to 3-4-0 on the 2008 campaign.
Looking to claim their fourth straight win and improve to 4-4-0, the Rams traveled north to take on a tough opponent in Navy.
Flanagan made sure that fourth straight win was in hand as she helped out on junior June Hartman’s (Virginia Beach, Va.) goal in the first half and then found the back of the net herself late in the contest to put the game out of reach and give VCU a thrilling 3-1 road win.
On the season, she is tied for the team lead with four goals and is second in assists with three and points with 11.
Flanagan and the Rams are back in action this Friday as they host the Tigers of Towson University in the 2008 CAA opener. Game time at VCU’s Sports Backers Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
