EIGHT HOME DATES HIGHLIGHT 2009 WOMEN’S SOCCER SCHEDULE

RICHMOND, Va. – A new look Virginia Commonwealth University women’s soccer team will be on display at VCU’s Sports Backers Stadium eight times during the fall of 2009.
Co-Head Coaches Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak and Tim Sahaydak released the fall schedule for the Black & Gold, who will be without five of its top six scorers from last fall.
The Rams will be looking to regain a spot in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament after missing the postseason for the first time since entering the conference in 1995.
Senior June Hartman (Virginia Beach, Va.) and sophomore Azania (Taboao Da Serra, Brazil ) will lead a potent offensive attack, while junior Myriam Bouchard (Quebec, Canada) and sophomore Molly Allen (Halifax, Nova Scotia) anchoring a solid back line for the Black & Gold.
VCU opens the 2009 slate with four games in the Carolinas, including a season-opener against the Pirates of East Carolina on Friday, August 21s in Greensville, N.C. After a game in Spartanburg, S.C. against Wofford, the Rams will take part in the UNC-Greensboro Tournament with games against the home team and the Hokies of Virginia Tech.
The first home games come in the VCU Classic that is a four-team tournament with Eastern Michigan, Loyola (Md.) and Richmond rounding out the field. VCU will take on Loyola on Friday evening and their cross-town rival Richmond on Sunday afternoon.
A three-game road trip features the Rams’ CAA opener at Towson on Thursday, September 24th.
The CAA home opener for the Black & Gold comes on Sunday, September 27th against the Patriots of George Mason University. Visits from Georgia State (October 2nd) and UNC Wilmington (October 4th) wrap up a three-game homestand.
In-state rivals William & Mary (October 16th) and Old Dominion (October 18th) come to Sports Backers for what will be a crucial weekend as both squads are perennial powers in the CAA.
After a trip to the Northeast for games at Hofstra and Northeastern, the Rams wrap up their 2009 regular season with a 5 p.m. finale on Saturday, October 31st against the Dukes of James Madison. |
