RAMS CONTINUE TO MAKE STRIDES IN FOURTH PLACE FINISH AT TRIBE OPEN
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – After just a month under the supervision of Assistant Coach Ethan Tussing, the Virginia Commonwealth University women’s cross country team looks ready to go places no other Rams squad has been as the Black and Gold had their second straight strong weekend finishing fourth overall at the Tribe Open this weekend.
Senior Danielle Williams (Virginia Beach, Va.) continues to prove she is saving her best for last as the veteran paced the Rams with a second place finish, crossing the line in 22:28.2.
Sophomore Melissa Douglas (Spotsylvania, Va.) finished second on the squad for the second straight week as she broke the tape in 23:47.3, good for 28th overall, while fellow classmate Genova Washington (Woodbridge, Va.) finished the six-kilometer course in 25:14.9.
The Williams, Douglas, and Washington trio all had tremendous weeks for the Black and Gold as all three finished the six-kilometer course in faster times than last week on the five-kilometer course at Hagan Stone Park.
“We worked really hard this week in order to prepare for the conference meet in two weeks,” Tussing said. “The hilly nature of the course made it tough on our girls, but we came out and competed hard once again, and yet again showed remarkable improvement. We continue to show progress week after week towards achieving our goals within the conference.”
The Black and Gold set out to achieve those CAA goals in two weekends as they head to Hempstead, N.Y. to take part in the CAA Championship meet on Friday, October 26th.
