Curt Kassab
Associate Head Coach
Associate Head Coach Curt Kassab joins Beth Cunningham’s staff for the 2007-08 season following a prominent high school coaching career. He will be primarily responsible for team defense, as well as individual player development and recruiting.
In 13 seasons in the prep ranks, including the last eight at Atlee High School in nearby Mechanicsville, Va., Kassab established himself as one of the top coaches in the state of Virginia.
His eight seasons directing the Atlee program were marked by a 174-33 record - an .802 winning percentage – and included a 30-0 record in 2003, when he led the Raiders to the Virginia High School AAA State Championship.
Kassab steered Atlee to 20-plus wins each of the last six seasons, including five Capital District titles. He was also at the helm as the Raiders made three consecutive trips to the Central Region Semifinals.
His efforts netted him the Associated Press’ Virginia State Coach of the Year award following the magical 2002-03 campaign. In addition, Kassab has been named Capital District Coach of the Year four times, as well as Central Region Coach of the Year after the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons.
“In addition to his 13 years of experience as a head coach, one of Curt's best qualities is his commitment to winning,” said Cunningham of Kassab. “He has an enthusiasm and passion for coaching and has earned a reputation for building teams that were always well-prepared, disciplined, and hard-working. His reputation and relationships throughout the area will also benefit our recruiting in Central Virginia and beyond.”
Under his tutelage, nine players have earned Division I scholarships, including former Ram Michele Cosel, and current Drexel seniors Narissa and Anora Suber.
After a 12-10 ledger his first season, Kassab’s Atlee squad improved to 19-5 in his second, and followed with a 143-18 record over the next six years.
Prior to his tenure at Atlee, Kassab served as head coach at Hollidaysburg High School in Hollidaysburg, Pa. from 1993-98, where he compiled an 85-47 record.
A native of Bellwood, Pa., Kassab earned bachelor’s degrees from York College of Pennsylvania in business management and health care administration in 1986. Kassab and his wife, Stephanie Shelton Kassab, reside in Glen Allen, Va. |
