VCU WOMEN’S BASKETBALL RELEASES 2009-10 SCHEDULE

RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Commonwealth University women’s basketball program has released its 2009-10 schedule, which is set to begin Nov. 16th against in-state rival Virginia Tech.

“We are very excited about the schedule we have assembled for the 2009-10 season,” said head coach Beth Cunningham.  “Our program has made great strides in the last few years and we’re eager to get back out on the court and continue building the VCU women’s basketball tradition.”

The Rams, who turned in the first undefeated campaign in Stuart C. Siegel Center history last year, will look to defend their school record tying 18-game home winning streak against the Hokies.

VCU, who is 52-15 over the past two seasons, wraps up the month of November at the Seton Hall Tournament, where it will face Arkansas State on Nov. 20 and either Seton Hall or Morgan State on Nov. 21.

The Rams remain on the road with a Dec. 2 contest at East Carolina and return home to battle cross-town rival Richmond (Dec. 6) and in-state foe Radford (Dec. 12).

A road game at Winthrop on Dec. 15 precedes a cross-country trip to Las Vegas, Nev., for the Duel in the Desert Tournament (Dec. 19-21), which features Arkansas, DePaul, Florida State, Hawaii, Kansas State, Texas-San Antonio and UNLV.

VCU closes out the non-conference schedule with a road meeting at Longwood (Dec. 28) and a home date with Coppin State (Dec. 30).

An 18-game Colonial Athletic Association slate features home-and-home dates with Northeastern, UNC Wilmington, Georgia State, William & Mary, Drexel, James Madison and Old Dominion.  VCU faces Towson, Delaware, Hofstra and George Mason just once during the regular season.

The Black & Gold open the conference schedule on Jan. 3 when Northeastern travels to the Verizon Wireless Arena.  VCU hits the road for four of its next six games, before enjoying a three-game home stand against UNC Wilmington (Jan. 28), Georgia State (Jan. 31) and James Madison (Feb.4).

The Rams travel to league rivals Old Dominion (Feb. 7) and Hofstra (Feb. 11), and return to the capital city for home games against defending CAA champion Drexel (Feb. 14) and William & Mary (Feb. 18).

VCU visits the Patriot Center to face George Mason on Feb. 21 and travels to Harrisonburg to battle James Madison on Feb. 25.

The Rams wrap-up their home schedule against Old Dominion (Feb. 28) and conclude the regular season at Northeastern (Mar. 3).

The CAA Championship is set for March 11-14 at the Convocation Center on the campus of James Madison.
