RAMS SELECTED TO HOST TULANE IN THIRD GAME OF PRESEASON WNIT
Former Metro Conference rivals set to do battle at 7 p.m.
RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Commonwealth University women’s basketball team will have its home opener a little early than expected as the Rams were selected to host the Green Wave of Tulane in the third and final game of the Preseason WNIT Friday evening at 7 p.m.
VCU started its season off with a big road win at Liberty, 59-57, before falling in a toughly-contested battle to sixth-ranked North Carolina, 77-65, on Sunday evening.
Tulane picked up a 75-62 home victory over Illinois State in the opening round before suffering an 86-53 defeat at Arizona State on Sunday afternoon.
Since the tournament guarantees three games for each school, the contest serve as the guaranteed third game.
The squads will renew a rivalry that dates back to the Metro Conference. VCU held a 5-4 edge in conference play before losing to the Green Wave in a non-conference game in 1998-99.
The contest will mark Tulane’s first trip to the Alltel Pavilion at the Stuart C. Siegel Center, which opened its doors for the 1999-2000 season.
