RAMS HOST TRIBE IN BATTLE FOR CAA SUPREMACY
Black and Gold look for 11th straight home win

RICHMOND, Va. – In recent years, the Virginia Commonwealth University women’s basketball team has asserted itself as one of the teams that will challenge for a Colonial Athletic Association league title year in and year out.

It is a well-known fact that each year, the Old Dominion Monarchs will be a part of that discussion.

This year, the Tribe of William & Mary can be added to that mix as it is off to its best start in its CAA history with a perfect 3-0 mark overall and a 10-4 overall record.

VCU is off to quite a start itself posting wins in eight of its past nine contests, including its most recent win, an 81-48 drubbing of James Madison at the Convocation Center. The Rams sit at 12-3 on the year and a 2-1 mark in CAA play.

The two teams will meet tonight at the Siegel Center in the first of two regular season match-ups.

The Rams have won three of the past four meetings between the two schools, including the most recent a 61-57 victory inside Kaplan Arena last March.

Senior Quanitra Hollingsworth (Chesapeake, Va.) will look to continue her tear through the CAA as the veteran has posted seven double-doubles in her past 12 contests including a 16-point, 11-rebound performance against JMU on Sunday afternoon.

Junior La’Tavia Rorie (Charlotte, N.C.) loves to be back in the comforts of home as the guard is posting 13.3 points per game and shooting 52.2% at the Siegel Center, compared to 4.1 ppg and a tough 21.7% in road contests.

The Tribe is led by junior Tiffany Benson, who is the two-time defending CAA Player of the Week after averaging 23.5 points, 13 rebounds, and six blocks per game last week in the Tribe’s two wins.

Against Drexel, she had a career-high 24-9-4, shooting 75% from the floor (12-16). Against UNC Wilmington, Benson broke her own school record for blocks in a game with eight, and added 23 points and 17 rebounds for good measure.

Game time at the Siegel Center is set for 7 p.m.
