HOLLINGSWORTH GRABS CAA CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
Senior averages 17.3 points and 8.7 rebounds in three VCU wins

RICHMOND, Va. – Prior to the 2008-2009 season, most questions surrounding the Virginia Commonwealth University women’s basketball team focused on the ability of senior Quanitra Hollingsworth (Chesapeake, Va.) to recover from an Achilles injury that kept her out of the final 11 games of last year.

Hollingsworth has quieted the doubters with a rousing start to the year by leading the Rams in points, rebounds and blocks and has helped VCU to an 8-2 mark through the first 10 games.

Her outstanding play this past week led the Black and Gold to three wins and earned the veteran CAA Co-Player of the Week honors.

In wins over Morgan State, Radford and N.C. Central, she averaged 17.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 2.5 steals per game.

To start the week, Hollingsworth posted 12 points, six rebounds and two blocks in a 71-48 thrashing of Morgan State at the Siegel Center.

She continued her great play on the road, dominating the frontcourt with a season-high 21 points, seven points and a career-best four steals while leading the Black and Gold to a 74-51 win at Radford.

The fourth double-double of her season and 41st of her career rounded out the week as she poured in a game-high 19 points, while corralling 13 rebounds in a 80-44 pounding of N.C. Central.

For the year, Hollingsworth leads the squad and is fourth in the CAA in both points (15.4 ppg) and rebounds (8.7 rpg).

Hollingsworth and the Rams now take the holiday week off before returning to the hardwood next Sunday to host in-state rival Longwood University in a 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon contest.
