HOLLINGSWORTH NAMED CAA CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR THIRD TIME THIS SEASON
Veteran frontcourt star led Rams to two wins and three-way tie for first-place
RICHMOND, Va. – In the 2008-2009 Virginia Commonwealth University women’s basketball media guide, senior Quanitra Hollingsworth (Chesapeake, Va.) lists “CAA Player of Year” as one of her goals for the season.
The frontcourt standout is well on her way to being in that discussion, pulling down her third Colonial Athletic Association Co-Player of the Week honor of the season on Monday afternoon.
Hollingsworth averaged 18.5 points and 10.5 rebounds on an efficient 15-of-26 shooting (57.7%).
In the Rams 75-61 road win over William & Mary, she posted 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting with six rebounds and one blocked shot.
The veteran followed that up with a gigantic performance against CAA power Old Dominion tallying season-highs in 21 points and 15 rebounds in a hard-fought 58-51 home win over the Lady Monarchs.
For her career, Hollingsworth has 993 rebounds, just seven shy of becoming the first 1,000-point, 1,000-rebound player in VCU women’s basketball history.
With the two wins, VCU keeps pace with Drexel and James Madison at 7-2 in the conference as the three teams are in a deadlock for first place.
Hollingsworth and the Rams are back in action on Thursday evening as they host the Seahawks of UNC Wilmington, one of the two teams to defeat VCU in conference, in a 7 p.m. contest at the Siegel Center.
