RICHMOND, Va. – After having a week off to focus exams off the court, the Virginia Commonwealth University women’s basketball team returns to the hardwood for the first time in eight days to take on the Bears of Morgan State at the Alltel Pavilion at the Stuart C. Siegel Center on Monday evening at 7 p.m.

The Rams will look to continue the momentum they gained prior to their time off as they used a balanced scoring attack to pick up a 71-61 win over the Hoyas of Georgetown University.

The meeting between the Bears and Rams is the fifth all-time meeting with VCU picking up wins in all four contests, including a 70-56 victory last year during the VCU SportsCenter Holiday Classic.

Senior Quanitra Hollingsworth (Chesapeake, Va.) has always been the focus of the opposition’s game plan and this season has been no different as the veteran leads the squad with 14.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.

In the win over Georgetown, Hollingsworth became the school’s record holder in rebounds as her eight rebounds gave her a career total of 862, eclipsing Beth Mollerup’s old record of 858. It is the second school-record for Hollingworth, who also has the school mark for double-doubles with 40.

Classmate Radoslava Bachvarova (Varna, Bulgaria) and junior Kita Waller (Gainesville, Ga.) are the two other Rams in double-figures with Bachvarova chipping in 10.7 ppg and Waller 10.3 ppg.

Waller was leader of VCU’s scoring attack against the Hoyas with 15 points, while also tallying a season-high eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Morgan State enters Monday’s contest looking to continue its hot start as the Bears have ripped through the early portion of their 2008-2009 schedule to a tune of 8-1, including a 70-48 dominating performance over CAA foe, William & Mary, to open the year.

Junior guard Corin “Tiny” Adams is the all-world guard for the Bears with 18.4 points, 4.7 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 4.1 steals per outing. Her .537 shooting percentage from beyond the arc ranks fifth in the country, while her 4.1 steals per game sits fourth in the nation.

Dinwiddie High School product Phylicia Jones returns close to home as the Petersburg, Va. native is chipping in 4.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game for the Bears.

VCU will be looking to continue its dominance at the Siegel Center as the Rams are 17-3 in their past 20 contests, including five straight wins dating back to February 21st when VCU lost to nationally-ranked Old Dominion.
