RAMS LOOK TO STAY PERFECT AT HOME AS GEORGIA STATE COMES TO TOWN
Black & Gold have won 16 straight at home

RICHMOND, Va. – Fashion experts say you’re only supposed to wear white between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

The Virginia Commonwealth University women’s basketball team doesn’t care what the experts have to say as the Rams have posted 16 straight victories while donning the home white jerseys.

That streak will be put on the line Thursday night when the pesky Panthers of Georgia State University come to the Alltel Pavilion at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.

VCU enters the contest with a school-record 21-4 mark through 25 games and a 11-2 mark in Colonial Athletic Association, tied with Drexel for the top mark. The Panthers have had a tough year and sit at 11-13 overall and 3-10 in the CAA.

“Their record is really deceiving of how good they really are,” Head Coach Beth Cunningham said. “They are an extremely athletic team and if you look at their games in-depth you can tell they gave Old Dominion, one of the top teams in the conference, trouble in both games this year.”

The Rams have been led by their senior leadership of late with Radoslava Bachvarova (Varna, Bulgaria) and Quanitra Hollingsworth (Chesapeake, Va.) combining for 28 points and 23 rebounds in VCU’s recent 61-43 victory over James Madison last Sunday.

One of the main reasons for the Black & Gold’s success at home has been the outstanding play of junior guard La’Tavia Rorie (Charlotte, N.C.) who is putting up 13.3 points per game at home, compared to just 6.1 ppg in road games.

Georgia State is led by freshman Jylisa Williams with 11.4 points per game, but the Panthers are missing a key piece of the puzzle with Danyielle McKeller banged up with a knee injury.

VCU is in unprecedented territory as the Rams have been receiving votes in both the AP and ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Poll for three weeks now, something no Black & Gold squad has ever accomplished.

Game time at the Siegel Center is set for 7 p.m.
