GETTING TO KNOW: HAILEY SCHEREN

With only one senior on the roster, the VCU women's cross country team had youth on its side this past fall and had a solid season, showing flashes of a bright, bright future for the program.

One of those young, talented runners is freshman Hailey Scheren, who will also be a vital part of the Rams' distance runners this spring on the track.

Prior to starting her first indoor season in the Black & Gold, she sat down with VCU Athletic Communications Student Assistant Nan Turner to talk about what life is like outside of running.

NT: What's your favorite thing about VCU?
HS:
There is always something to do, the city offers so much while still having the college campus feel.

NT: When you're not on the track, what do you like to do in your free time?
HS:
Nap, sketch, hangout with friends, the usual.

NT: If you could play on any other VCU sports team, which one would you choose? Why?
HS:
Field hockey, I've always wanted to try it.

NT: Who has been the most influential person in your life? Why?
HS:
My dad, he's the one that got me into running, even though there was a little initial kicking and screaming.

NT: What are you most looking forward to this season?
HS:
Conference, it's the race we've been gearing toward all season, every other one has just been an extra practice.

NT: What's your favorite and least favorite part of a meet day?
HS:
My favorite is after the race, not only because of the sense of accomplishment, but because my body doesn't have to hurt anymore. Least favorite part would have to be seconds before the gun goes off, the pressure to perform is at its peak then.

NT: What's something people would be surprised to know about you?
HS:
I used to be into drama and acting.

NT: If you had to describe yourself in one word what would it be and why?
HS:
Loyal, once it has been decided that something is worth my time, I'm not going to turn my back on that thing or person.
