GETTING TO KNOW: FRESHMAN LAUREN HYMON

This year's women's cross country team has continued to show progress with each passing week and a big part of that has been the insurgence of the newcomers to the Rams' roster.

Freshman Lauren Hymon is one of those newcomers and before hitting the practice trails this week, she sat down with VCU Athletics Communications Student Assistant Nan Turner to let us know a little more about her.

NT: What's your favorite thing about VCU?
LH:
My favorite thing about VCU is that it's in the city so there's a lot of freedom.

NT: When you're not on the track, what do you like to do in your free time?
LH:
When I'm not running track I like to paint, write poetry and sing.

NT: If you could play on any other VCU sports team, which one would you choose? Why?
LH:
If I could play for a different VCU team it would be soccer, but just for fun, I'm not good at it competitively.

NT: Who has been the most influential person in your life? Why?
LH:
The most influential person in my life has been my Dad. Being in the Navy he wasn't home a lot, but once he came home he would make it his priority to reconnect with me and be involved in every single aspect of my life. He also is hard-working and reached all his goals through time and patience, and encourages me to do the same and never give in.

NT: What are you most looking forward to this season?
LH:
Indoors because I'll be able to run my main event, the 800.

NT: What's your favorite part of a game day?
LH:
My least favorite part of the meet day is the hour before the race because it's so full of nerves and anticipation. There are so many things you have to do correctly and the smallest things will have an impact on your body and how you perform, it can get pretty nerve-racking. My favorite part, of course, is running, and the relaxation I feel after I've ran a race knowing I've given my all and no longer have all of those built up nerves.

NT: What's something people would be surprised to know about you?
LH:
This will only be my third year running track.
