GETTING TO KNOW: HEATHER DELA CRUZ
With the cross country season in full force and the track season
right around the corner, VCU Athletics Communications Student
Assistant Nan Turner caught up with junior distance runner Heather
Dela Cruz to give Rams fans a little more knowledge about
NT: What's your favorite thing about VCU?
HDC: My favorite thing about VCU is that it's not a normal campus. It's in the heart of a city, which gives you a lot more room to grow than other campuses.
NT: When you're not running, what do you like to do in
your free time?
HDC: I catch up on sleep whenever I am not running! I cook a lot and still love to go to the gym.
NT: If you could play on any other VCU sports team,
which one would you choose? Why?
HDC: I would definitely play soccer if I was good enough to play! I have always loved and played soccer ever since I could remember.
NT: Who has been the most influential person in your
HDC: One of the most influential people in my life was my high school track coach who got me to run at VCU in the first place.
NT: What are you most looking forward to this
HDC: I am most looking forward to having the conference track championship here at VCU!
NT: What's your favorite and least favorite part of a
HDC: Favorite thing of a meet day is actually racing and least favorite part is waiting in anticipation for literally hours before my race.
NT: What's something people would be surprised to know
HDC: That I am actually the laziest athletic person you will ever meet. I run for hours a day but hate walking down the street!
NT: If you had to describe yourself in one word what
would it be and why?
HDC: Determined, when I set my mind to doing something, I get the work done to accomplish what I want.
Favorite place to eat in Richmond? Cheesecake Factory, even though most times I can barely afford it because it is so darn expensive!
School you'd like to attend if you weren't at VCU? I would like to go back home to Texas, probably Texas A&M.
Favorite pump-up song? No Hands by Waka Flaka
Favorite place to shop? Forever 21, of course!
TV show? True Blood! And I love competing shows like Real World vs. Road Rules type shows.
Movie? Stepbrothers, I know every line!
Funniest teammate? Nicole Waters, she's funny because sometimes it is very unintentional for her to be funny.
Favorite class this semester? I actually like Philosophy 201.
